Organization of Nature-Based Solutions for Disaster Risk Reduction and Response (ECO-DDR)

In November 2020, the French Development Agency (AFD) decided to grant 6 million euros for the implementation of the project entitled “Organization of Nature-Based Solutions for Disaster Risk Reduction and Response” (abbreviated as the ECO-DDR project).

General Objective

To strengthen ecosystem, community, and financial resilience in the Zambezi Delta in the face of climate change impacts.

Areas of Intervention

Support to Communities and Local Actors

Communities and local actors have the capacity to prevent, mitigate, prepare for, and effectively respond to natural disasters in the context of climate change.

Support for Ecosystem Restoration and Sustainable Management

Mangrove ecosystems are being restored, sustainably managed, and provide a nature-based solution to reduce disaster risk in the Zambezi Delta.

Support to Conservation Areas

Conservation Areas have a financial resilience mechanism to respond to the impacts of climate change.

(6 million provided by AFD and 0.29 million by the French Red Cross)

Expected Results

Communities and local actors empowered to respond to natural disasters;

Mangrove ecosystems restored and sustainably managed;
