Elephant-Resilient Silos Strengthen Food Security in Mágoè National Park
The activity is being implemented by the Mozambique Wildlife Alliance (MWA) under the Sustainable Rural Economy Programme (MozRural), funded by the World Bank, and forms part of joint efforts to reduce the impacts of conflict between communities and elephants in Tete Province.
The infrastructure was designed to strengthen the protection of agricultural production by ensuring adequate and secure post-harvest storage conditions, reducing losses caused by elephant incursions and other wild animals.
This initiative complements the implementation of the first electrified fences in the districts of Mágoè and Cahora Bassa, completed in 2025 under the partnership between the Foudation for the Conservation of Biodiversity (BIOFUND), the National Administration for Conservation Areas (ANAC), and MWA. The fences cover approximately 130 hectares of agricultural land and directly benefit families vulnerable to human-wildlife conflict.
Through these integrated actions, the MozRural Programme continues to promote sustainable solutions that reconcile biodiversity conservation, community protection, and rural development in Mozambique’s Conservation Areas.
