BIOFUND and Mozambique LNG Project Partner to Advance Biodiversity Conservation and Nature-Based Solutions

The Foundation for the Conservation of Biodiversity (BIOFUND) and the Mozambique LNG Project, operated by TotalEnergies EP Mozambique Area 1, Lda. (TEPMA1), have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on 2 July 2026, marking the commencement of a strategic partnership aimed at promoting biodiversity conservation and the development of nature-based solutions in Mozambique.

The Memorandum establishes a framework for cooperation between BIOFUND and TEPMA1 to develop initiatives that balance economic development with biodiversity conservation, thereby contributing to the protection of natural capital and the promotion of sustainable development in Mozambique. Under this partnership, the two institutions will collaborate in identifying and implementing investment opportunities in nature-based solutions, sharing technical and scientific knowledge, and supporting actions that contribute to biodiversity impact mitigation and the achievement of net biodiversity gain, in accordance with applicable legal and regulatory requirements in Mozambique.

The Memorandum represents an important milestone in strengthening collaboration between the private sector and a conservation-financing institution. It lays the foundation for a partnership that combines environmental responsibility with sustainable development.

For BIOFUND, this partnership represents another step forward in mobilizing new partners for biodiversity conservation initiatives in Mozambique, while promoting innovative solutions that contribute to the preservation of ecosystems and the well-being of the communities that depend on them.

During the signing ceremony, Jean-Pascal Clemençon, Senior representative of TotalEnergies EP Mozambique Area 1, Lda. said: Mozambique’s extraordinary biodiversity is one of its greatest assets, and through this partnership with BIOFUND, the Mozambique LNG project is reinforcing its commitment to ensuring that conservation and development are mutually reinforcing goals. Together, we can build innovative solutions that protect ecosystems, strengthen communities, and contribute to a future where economic progress and environmental responsibility go hand in hand.
