BIOFUND – Foundation for the Conservation of Biodiversity is a private financial institution with the aim of financing the conservation of biodiversity in Mozambique.

With the creation of BIOFUND, the concept of a Conservation Trust Fund has been introduced into Mozambique: part of a global network of institutions that are governed according to the parameters and principles defined by the CFA (Conservation Finance Alliance).

“It is up to us to resist the discourse which claims that Nature should be blindly subjugated to the needs of economic progress. Mozambique will not be Mozambique if it loses its natural heritage.”

Mission

To support the conservation of aquatic and terrestrial biodiversity and the sustainable
use of natural resources, including the consolidation of the national system of Conservation Areas.

Vision

In 2018, become an instrument capable of contributing in a decisive manner to guarantee
the sustainable financing of the defence and conservation of biodiversity in Mozambique.

Mozambique is a country rich in natural resources. It possesses 14 important ecological regions, some of which are considered to be of global importance. The National Network of Conservation Areas, led by ANAC, covers approximately 26% of the national territory and includes 19 national parks and reserves, 20 official hunting reserves and a variety of other categories of Conservation Areas.
